About Ladate Dominum and its Author
Laudate Dominum is the place where Fr Matthew Olver blogs about liturgy, theology, and Anglicanism. As a regular contributor to Covenant, the blog of The Living Church, this site will also include some of their posts, as well as other articles and links of interest.
Laudate Dominum is Latin for "Praise the Lord." and began the versicle and response that followed, "O, Lord, open thou our lips" and "Glory be to the Father..." in the Offices of Morning and Evening Prayer in first English Prayers Books. |
Priest. O Lord, open thou our lips.
Answer. And our mouth shall show forth thy praise.
Priest. O God, make speed to save us.
Answer. O Lord, make haste to help us.
Here all standing up, the Priest shall say,
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
Answer. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
Priest. Praise ye the Lord [Laudate Dominum].
Answer. The Lord's Name be praised.
